swelling of the upper abdomen, soreness of the abdomen, feeling tired but being unable to sleep, sore throat, feelings of the common cold that continue for a long period of time. You can be tested for mono very easily by a blood test (and this can be a time saver and mental-health saver by knowing whether you have it or not and it's helpful to know whether mono is your excuse for feeling tired...) However, your test may not show positive until about a month of having had mono.
You can contract the virus by drinking from the same water glasses, eating from the same plate because of saliva transfer. It is rather rare and difficult, but not impossible to contract from roommates or close friends that spend a lot of time in a close space, especially since coughing and sneezing spread the viral particles around. Viruses won't be destroyed by heat very easily, so you have to just avoid sharing things you put in your mouth (if you have the virus).
