God...my heart just actually ached for you.

Start talking about ways to communicate. Email, text messages, AIM, letters, cards, flowers, phone calls, small token gifts, plan visits for both of you, talk about your future....

Spend as much time together now as possible. Create a memory book. I know that sounds more girlish than anything but it could be really fun to look back later and remember the fun you had making it.

Is the move a permanent thing?

I hate to sound insensitive - but if it is a permanent move and there is no hope of her coming with you then i think the right think to is to split up until you can be together properly - cos its gonna be quite an emotional strain for you both being so far apart and feeling obligated to stay faithful to each other when you are both feeling so lonely.

Alternatively - if the move is not permanent and you both feel that visits too and fro are gonna be sufficient until you return then i'd say make sure one of you has a really good phone deal that allows international calls at a cheap rate and just stay in touch as much as you can.

Good luck - I know its not easy.

Well well well I've been there before. My boyfriend moved to England some years ago and it took so much to keep our relationship alive. we had to think of so many creative ways to keep the sparks alive and it still was so difficult. communication is KEY!!! keep her informed of everything that you do so she feels like she is a part of you life so that she feels almost as if she is there with you. Have her visit often at least once a month the pound is strong and will go a long way in America. Or maybe she may have to move to America. I finally decided to move to England to be with my boyfriend big change but it was worth it we are married now. I wish you guys the best.

Get VOIP in wherever it is that your moving to. Something like vonage or a lingo line. You pay a small fee a month and you can get a UK number, and she can call you anytime she wants for free that way..and you guys can still talk.

You can also get a calling card from here http://www.blackstoneonline.com/ for about 5 pounds you can talk for about 160 minutes.

There is also email. And you could possibly save up to visit her.
There is always something you can do, be creative and good luck.

If you both install Skype on your computers you can talk all the time. If you both have webcams, it will be like you are with each other.

When I was away from my boyfriend (now husband) in 1996, the only way we could communicate was through letters, and very expensive phone calls (2 $ per minute) once a week.

I don't know how you could leave your girlfriend & go to America. How can you call her your gf when you have arranged that, knowing her. When you go she will soon find a replacement who will love, chersih & look after her. You have a great time in the US & dont worry your Ex will be OK

She can visit! The pound is much stronger than the dollar right now, so it will be pretty cheap for her to visit you. Don't give up hope.

You are a fool. How can you leave your girlfriend.

That's your loss she will find someone else who won't leave her.

Stay unhappy in America you will regret it.

Get another one over there as you'll need something less discerning. Bad news though is that Anna-Nicole isn't available any longer....

I feel for you, spent each and every moment you have with her as though it where the last and then get back as soon as possible.

Good luck.
