how can i avoid the heartache? this person is a dear friend of mine ( in friend i mean a work colleague of whom is someone that i enjoy knowing due to his extremely magnetic personality ) and i dont want to ruin the friendship one bit...is it inevitable that heartache is to come?..me knowing the he would never love me in the same way due to some circumstance or other..i know he is fond of me but im not sure if he gets a kick out of just entertaining his own ego?

Well, it's called taking a chance. You will never know how he feels unless you put yourself out there. It can turn out really bad or really good, but not knowing could be the worst possible scenario. Hearts heal, and if he doesn't want to be with you, then it wasn't meant to be.
