How can the transfer of force through saturated soil be measured? My teacher gave me an project where I have to measure the transfer of force through pure saturated soil and then in saturated soil with 4 different additives (gravel, bark, dried leaves, and Styrofoam popcorn). I have to determine the difference and which additive decreases the transfer of force the most. I don't know where to start! I don't know how to measure force. Do I measure it in pounds because she said to us a spring scale; doesn't does scales weigh pounds? I'm so confused. Please help me! Thank you so much!

Weight IS force.

Assuming that your teacher is looking for dynamic force, you can suspend a container of soil from the spring scale.
