can i refuse surgery and get a medical discharge?

But I'll give it a good try to answer your vague question: If you refuse surgery.; you can still get a medical discharge. There's such a thing as "Discharge Against Medical Advice." It's called DAMA. And you have every right to practice it. After all, the body is yours. You call the shots.

Why don't you ask the doctor exactly what benefit you'd reap from that particular surgery?. Ask for alternative treatment and consequences should there be no surgery. And also, try to read up on the type of surgery required. Sometimes, surgery as radical as it is; is the best and permanent solution to a medical problem. Medical treatment sometimes is palliative.and takes a longer course. And there are minor complications as medicine is far advanced now. especially in the field of anesthesiology.

I have had a lot of surgeries in my life with very little complications. The post-op pains are very manageable with analgesia; i.e., painkillers. And the recovery phase is brief and uneventful.

why dont you want surgery? What kind of surgery?
