How do most people clean their anus/rectum after defecating?

I was taught as a kid to first wipe thoroughly with tissue, then disinfect the area immediately by using handsoap and warm water (using a half gallon plastic container while still seated on the toilet). Last step of course is to wash your hands in the sink. I still do it to this day, but I'm not sure if other people do it the same way. I have the impression that other people simply use tissue and do not do any disinfecting at all. (eeew!?)

This is a serious hygene quesiton, so serious answers only please.

Toilet paper. Some use water. I think most only use toilet paper.
