There are lots and lots of dogs. I'd say to get started looking investigate some dogs you are interested in and go with the one that you think would have the best personality you are looking for and certain requirements. Look at energy level, grooming requirements, temperment, everything that is imporant to you. I know www.Puppyfind.com has lots of breeds and gives you infomation about each dog including a size. Good Luck :)

If you'd like a calm, reliable type, I suggest a lab.
If you'd like a playful, yet intelligent companion, maybe try an Australian Shepherd.
For an excited and adorable dog, I'd say a Boston Terrier. Fun and energetic.
Chihuahuas and other small dogs are cute, too.
But, a warning to you--they can be quick to turn on you and snap.
However, if you're not looking for pure-bred dogs or even a majority of a certain breed, I wholly recommend going to your local animal shelter.
There are a lot of animals there in need of a good home.
So, not only would you help them, you could find a perfect dog just for you.

If you live in a house with a big fenced in yard, get a German Shepherd, or a huskey, they're great for playing, cuddleing, and protection. If you live in a small house or apartment with a small yard or no fence get a terrier, they'er very playful, and very good dogs. If you don't plan to give the dog much exercise, I'd get something small, like a toy Dauchsund, or a toy poodle, they're both great dogs. It also up to your preference. Do you want something big and fierce, or something small and playful. It's up to you, just make sure you remember the best interest of the dog. ITS A GREAT IDEA TO ADOPT!!!!

It depends on preference. Do you want a small dog, a big dog, long hair, short hair, ect. Also what activies would you like to do with your dog? Do you want him to play frisbee with you or just a companion? Do you have children in your home, and how often will you want to spend traning him? I think the best way is to research all of the dog breeds. Puppydogweb.com has a list of breeds and information about them. The best way to decide is to do your research! Good luck!

Different breeds have their own unique behavior and handle things differently. (There are exceptions, of course).
I have a poodle and had an American Eskimo. Both have different attitudes and behave in different ways. My poodle is really snotty yet my Eskimo was very affectionate with everybody.
It all depends on what you're looking for in a dog.

It really depends on your personal needs and preferences. Do you have kids? What size of yard/home do you have? Do you want a very active/laid back dog? Do you have a lot of time for walks, etc?
