Frequent Flyers...?

Question

I'm new to frequent flyer miles, how much will 5K miles save me on a trip? 5K miles or a certain $$$ amount??? I would think that if my trip totaled 10K miles, and I use 5K miles, my ticket price would be half price? or not? Please explain... Thanks!

That is not how it works. You earn miles thru buying tickets and from those trips you collect free frequent flyer miles.
Then when you have enough frequent flyer miles saved you get a free ticket. Most domestic flights you would need at least 20,000 miles to get one round trip ticket. You do not get partial credit.
