Depends. If the wine is served with a meal then you obviously have your choice between red and white wine. It also depends on your pallet. Big and bold reds, softer and sweeter reds and whites.
My personal favorite is white. Good balance, and good for all occasions. Pinot Grigio's come to mind. Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio....Yummy to the tummy!

You have to try this wine: Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay. It's a little on the expensive side ($40/bottle) but so worth it! Its a white wine that's light and just a bit fruity. Very smooth. Possibly the best wine I've had thus far!

The last time I celebrated Valentine's Day with a boyfriend, I had a bottle of Strewn Winery 1997 Vidal Icewine (we had it in 2005). It was very nice and well worth the wait. Although you won't be able to get this wine specifically, you could try pretty much any icewine or late harvest wine from Ontario and not go wrong. If you want to pair it with food, just cut up slices of fresh fruit to go along with it (grapes, pears, apples, strawberries). Alternatively, I love starting the evening with sparkling wine (not necessarily champagne). Pink sparkling wine is particularily in keeping with the occasion but white sparkling wine works just as well.

i do no longer comprehend why you will think of having wine is romantic in case you do no longer choose to drink it, yet i'd attempt a sparkling wine that's on the candy area, via fact they're style of like soda and the bubbles are festive looking. circulate to a shop that sells wine and ask what they have. It choose no longer be high priced, and you will use the leftovers in cooking, or possibly you need to purchase a a million/2 bottle. chill out it nicely earlier ingesting it if that's a sparkling wine. Have it with nutrition, it oftentimes tastes greater efficient that way than basically ingesting it via itself in case you do no longer likely like wine.

I usually don't drink at all. But once in a great while it's nice to have a little loopiness. On a night when I make a nice Triple Chocolate Fudge Orange Zest Cake I pair it with one glass of this ...

we share the glass and it just enhances the taste of the cake.
Have a good Day.

Two lines of thought...
if your companion likes wine enough to have opinions, and you want to make a splash, go with Champagne or another sparkler
if neither of you are regular wine drinkers, and you are not looking to spend a lot, look for a dry(ish) rose, especially such as la Vielle Ferme from the Rhone.
both are versatile with meals. both drink well on their own.

Wild Horse merlot. If you like reds. If you like whites try a Chardonny. the Wild Horse brand is an excellent brand. it runs around 15.00 a bottle. For desert try a Port with dark chocolate. or there is also champange and strawberrries or chocolate. a cheap good champange I think is Korbel. dry or brut. have fun be careful and nothing wrong with wanting to be romantic and in love.
