The marriage took place when she was 6. The consummation didn't occur till she was 9. So he said.

Whether it was 6 or 9, it still is horrifying and does little to justify the notion that a 40-50 year old man would take pleasure in having sex with such a young child. Procreation? Would a child of six, not to mention nine, be in a biological position to have a child? If not procreation, then it could only be for sex. But amongst the adult wives that he has, he can't wait for Aisha to grow up to adulthood? And if he can't wait, then surely the charges of paedophilia is not far-fetched, right?

Nobody really knows since there is little record from that time and nobody is still alive to say what happened. It's a debatable issue.
