why do religious authorities in saudi arabia say god forbids women to drive? this is important because saudi version of islam is the one now being taught in the majority of religious schools here and as muslims will eventually be the majority non muslims need to know how they think.

Currently, the "dmv" of Saudi Arabia is not equipped to deal with women drivers. Since things are so well segregated there (they have banks, malls, and even grocery stores that do not allow men to enter), the whole system would have to be changed; for instance, there would have to be women traffic cops (and most folks wouldn' t be too keen on see their wife/sister/daughter/mother working "in the street", as they would see it, at all hours. This would would cause them undue suspicion and make them particularly vulnerable to harassment.) They would also have to build new traffic centers, and then the question comes up: what happens if a woman is violating a law/ or has been in an accident, and there aren't any women cops around to deal with the situation? In Saudi, it's not a great idea for an unknown man to approach an unknown woman.

The current situation isn't all that great either: many Saudi women depend on chauffeurs to get around, but this also violates a religious rule: being possibly secluded with a non-relative of the opposite sex.
Most folks there see this as a ridiculous problem that needs to be fixed. The king himself has promised to do so. It just has so many tricky elements that I don't see it changing anytime soon!

So it's not really an "Islam" thing. There was a saying of Prophet Mohammed, that "Women who can ride are better than those who cannot". If you look at all other Islamic countries, you will find no such rule!

i am Muslim . God did not forbid women to drive. this is NOT correct and i am living in Saudi Arabia. it is forbidden for women to drive in Saudi Arabia because of the tradition but not because of the religion. how ever i think that the Saudi government will allow women to drive soon if the majority of the people will say yes to the new law

You don't have to worry about what Non Muslims think about you and Islam. It is matter decided by Allah Almighty. You must have been told by your Grandpa about ancient days of Islam when only Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) was the only Muslim, later on the number increased.

There must be a reason in it. I'll check it up and info you the reason of this rule. Women should be allowed to drive but in Hijab (While covering the face, not eyes).

Muslim women have observed via a male grownup relative who isn't accepted to mary along with her (in accordance to Islamic regulation) while that girls vacationing long (safar in islamic language) and could stay evening. that's for risk-free practices of her existence and risk-free practices from unpredicted events throughout SAFAR. utilising limit can considered purely in Saudi Arabia. there is no Islamic regulation, that's an area regulation of SA. each and every muslim women would desire to persist with usa regulation if it demanded purely for risk-free practices and risk-free practices.

Muslims will never be the majority in The United States of America. islam is so wrong that they even kill each other. Hopefully the false religion will die out. Christianity is real and will last.

May God Bless you.
