I need to file charges against the prosecutor of my city. The police department has been on the news lately for having a lot of problems, and I don't trust them. Who do I trust? Who do I call?

Call your local tv or radio station, and explain your concerns. Maybe they will investigate your allegations, and do a feature story on political coruption in your town.

There is more then one prosecutor in the city. Also the police department is not the same as were the prosecutor works (the city court MIS). You can file a complaint against the prosecutor with the state Bar. They have the power to say if he or she can practice as an prosector.

Usually, the Attorney General of each State has oversight responsibility for prosecutors, and will consider complaints against them. The State Bar is another organization of lawyers, with a vested interest in preventing poor behavior on the part of lawyers, and can take action against lawyers behaving inappropriately.

If you believe a Prosecutor has broken the law, you need to state what he's done, when and where he did it, and how you know (or how it can be proven). You'd do well to send any correspondence via certified mail, to be able to prove it was sent. This gives you leverage if no action is taken and you choose to "go public" with it to news media.

You probably want to file a formal letter of complaint with the state bar association ethics committe.

Also, depending on the case law of your state, you might be able to file an action seeking an injunction against the prosecutor. Keep in mind that most court officers have immunity for official acts, otherwise they'd be sued constantly.

For all criminal investigations against a police officer or department call the F.B.I. or if you perfer to start at a lower level, you could go to the Mayors office and give them the info you have. BUT give only COPIES of any and all documentation and/or get a reciept for all paperwork or documentation. NEVER in the absents of a witness in your behalf give original papers or evidence to anyone your not familiar with or that won't show you some form of I.D.

The prosecutor only has power in their jurisdiction. Talk to a prosecutor outside of your jurisdiction or even a judge within your jurisdiction would be of help.
