so today is my 6th day with accutane and tomorrow will be a week. my skin on my face is already peeling and the zits are all dried out and just crispy. but my lips arent chapped and the rest of my body is not dry. i am on the 40mg. does this mean that its working fast? i havent had any flare up. will these pimples just come off and then the huge flare up will happen? or are they going away already? thank you

You are in the beginning phase and accutane will dry up your pimples, and u will see redness, dryness and peeling. It will begin to clear up...its just takes a few weeks to see it. Once the pimples are gone, and you finish your perscribed cycle. Your skin will be clear for quite sometime or it may come back. If it does....
Ask your dermotologist about Ziana- a new acne gel. It works wonders. And I have tried everything. Also, always wash your skin with cool water, never hot. I use Cetaphil face wash and moisturizer and it works really well. I am also on ortho low birth control which helps balance my hormones. And, I also use a foundation that is oil free. I am acne free now:))

Good Luck

BTW-I was on accutane twice and it def cleared it up, but my acne eventaully came back. But now what I mentioned above is what I'm doing right now and it works for me....at least for now.

Good Luck!!

You're on a pretty low dose. I was one of the guinea pigs for Accutane a long time ago. 175 mg. a day. They always say you get worse before you get better-so if you haven't had any major side effects like a bloody nose or your fingernails coming off and your hair falling out in clumps within the first week-you are doing fine. The pimples just dry up and are history. Your doctor will evaluate you soon and since you seem to be doing well, he'll probably put you on a maintenance dose. Good for you!!

You can notice the effects of Accutane in a week, but you won't know how sensitive your skin, lips, nose, etc., will be throughout your treatment this early. Without knowing the severity of your acne (or being able to see it), you won't get close to a truthful answer on a forum such as this.

You sound like one of the lucky ones. I had to be on it forever to get my acne under control. My guess is that it is already getting your acne under control, and you most likely will not have a major flare up.
