Atheists come here for the same reason Christians do. They believe that they can share information about what they believe with others who may have questions.
Everyone wants to feel that they are not alone in their thinking. We are a social race and need the support of our fellow human-beings. There isn't a Atheist section so the meet here in R&S.
God Bless

I KNOW when you typed this question, Yahoo told you that this had been asked at least 2,000 times before....
EDIT: I came here originally Agnostic, I wanted to learn, I was a seeker of truth. This site was part of a study for me, and I began to realize Atheism was the most logical solution. I continue to come here for a couple reasons:
A) it continues to confirm my belief (perhaps the reason you go to church). I hear some comments and arguments from Theists that I find illogical or untrue and I am renewed in my Atheism.
B) I feel that religion has a huge effect on my life. In school, I was not taught about evolution because the students in my class refused to listen. The President of my country believes God regularly speaks with him and this concerns me.
C) There is an entertainment value that you just can't get in "the real world." If my co-worker says, "If I'm wrong then oh well, but if you're wrong you're screwed," I try to refrain from arguing and try to get back to work. But here, we can say the things that should be said without fearing repercussions.

Probably to defend themselves. People here seem to have an awful lot of negative questions and answers towards atheist. I believe in god, but I don't knock those who believe differently.

Athiest's have never found proof of the existence of a God. I you speak with an openly vocal athiest, you will find them to generally have more knowledge of religion than the average person. Very few people will outright shun the possibility of God without understanding religion to some extent. I am an Agnostic raised Methodist. I know all the Bible stories, and have read most of it. I have studied religions of many types, and am familiar with the rampant corruption, abuses, and wars that have tainted the sanctity of most organized religions. Nevertheless, I am still intrigued by religion, and wouldn't want to be caught with my eyes closed if the proof of its existence were to find me. You will sometimes find me in the religion section.

To answer the second part, atheism means not having a belief in any god. So of course we don't believe in your god. To say that you think atheists actually believe in your god is extremely arrogant, as well as ignorant.
As for the first part, maybe these will give you a better idea:

And I could go on. Seriously there is no reason why such a stupid question would have been asked more than once, let alone a dozen times a day.

Yahoo! solutions would not have a non secular area. It has a faith & Spirituality area, which describes the subject rely of communique, no longer the contributors. So of course we are right here to communicate matters concerning to faith and spirituality. What makes you think of an atheist does no longer be conscious of the thank you to respond to non secular questions? I, like many atheists, became raised with faith. apart from, in a 2010 Pew communicate board survey, atheists and agnostics scored the utmost on a sequence of questions approximately faith. extra, atheism is a place concerning faith, so any communicate of atheism might logically take place in this area -- as evidenced via the type of questions directed at atheists right here. there are a number of damaging myths approximately atheists circulating in society that atheists have each appropriate to attempt to dispel. apart from, faith impacts the lives of many atheists, whether they do no longer themselves have faith in it. interior the U. S., non secular anyone is consistently attempting to push their ideals on others, interpersonally, in society, and via secular regulation. they're consistently "entering into our employer," as you place it. we've each appropriate to remark on, communicate, and grant information approximately this phenomenon whilst the subject rely arises right here. you assert, "Why can not all of us in simple terms appreciate one yet another," yet you do no longer seem involved in respecting atheists or acknowledging that we've a place interior the communicate right here. appreciate is going the two strategies.

Think whatever you like. I "hang out" in the religious section because people who are uncertain post here, and if I can answer questions about atheism and help clarify issues for them, I'm happy to do so.
What is it about atheists that makes you so uneasy?

For the same reason Catholics, mormons, Jehova's whitnesses, and everyone else hangs out in the religious sections. They're curious to see how other people view their religion and defend it from people who condem it.

This question has been asked and answered numerous times, but for the sake of clarity, here's another answer.
The religion and spirituality section (note, just not "religion.) is a public forum to which all who might want to join the discussion are invited.
Please remember this.

We hang out here to prove theists wrong.
Nah, just kidding. I am an agnostic, and I come here because I think religion is a fascinating subject, and I enjoy talking to others about it and reading their views and beliefs.
