Are food in Dollar stores safe? Like chocolate, for example. What do you do if you can find the expiration dates on them? I see food for so cheap in there and wonder if they are expired. lol

The date is usually use by this date for the best of that item it is acceptable to buy and use food that is extended past that best before date the shop is still liable if the food is crook.

I'll go to dollar store for dry items and household cleaners but not really for food. Though sometimes I found good American brand canned items there but always check the expiration date. Watch out for food items made in developping countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and some other countries. They have a very different standard of food hygiene (quite lenient!). These also go for candies. I trust those made or manufactured in USA and Canada but not Mexico nor other countries. Just to be on the safe side.

I've bought many food items and never had a problem. One of the best deals is the jarred spices and herbs like parsley, garlic powder, etc. Much cheaper than in the grocery store.
I've never had a problem with chocolate or candy of any sort.

Well,..Im not sure were you live and what kind of foods they have...my local dollar stores carry..sugar...teas..coffee..mixed for muffins, cookies. They are cheap brands thats why they can be sold for a dollar. I dont see why they wouldnt be safe. i have purchased my spices fom dollar stores and they are just as good as the supermarket ones that seem to be pricey. I think its comes down to the label. Hope I helped some.

OH Hell no, forget it. I bought soup and a candy bar at a dollar store 1 time, and the only time!!! I got stomach cramps and water poops the next morning. Spend a few more cents, and get Top Ramen at a respectable store. Hell, I'll even send you a few dollars to NOT go to a dollar store for food.

This should not be a problem. If items are out of date, thats more of a management issue that could happen at any store, not a Dollar Store issue.

there is no problem. dollar stores have the same standards as all other stores. expired products are removed from the shelves. you can find really great bargains at the dollar stores. and they have a lot of brand named items such as rotel tomatoes, tostito chips, honeycomb, betty crocker. i don't see any problem.

They purchase in huge bulk varieties so they are able to get them incredibly low-value. subsequently they are able to make a income off each and each kit.
