I'm 23 and recently, 4 days ago went on wellbutrin for depression/anxiety. I had previiously gone on paxil and gained 30 pounds (and lost a lot of it but not all of it) 2 years ago. The doc. said normally people lose weight on wellbutrin and do not gain it. But it has been 4 days and i feel like ive gained weight!! I've eaten the same, so is it possible to gain 3 pounds in 4 days? or more? i feel fatter. im so scared of gaining weight it's not worth being on an anti depressant if I'm fat. does anyoone have any personal experiences or know anything about this that could help me?

Also, have you ever drank on wellbutin? I know it says not to...but that is what it says with all anti depressants and my friend drinks on effexor, as have i, and i drank on paxil and it was fine. I'm just scared cus this says it can cause seizures. im not a big drinker, liek once every 2 weeks but i like to drink socially with my friends.

Be careful taking Wellburtin for anxiety. It is great for depression, but not the top choice for anxiety because it can actually increase your symptoms. Talk to your doctor about this though.
I am on a combo of effexor and wellbutrin. This works well for me.
As for drinking, I know they say not to. I have. I haven't had any problems. But, I would suggest limiting it to one or two and leave it at that.
Good luck

I've been on Wellbutrin XL for almost 2 years now and have not gained any weight but have lost weight. Not necessarily due to the med tho. I wouldn't advise mixing alcohol with any medications. It is true that mixing alcohol with Wellbutrin can cause seizures.

It takes about 2 weeks before Wellbutrin will be in full effect, sometimes more. 4 days is not really a good indicator of whether or not it will work. I am on it and have never had any problems. I would not say I "lost weight" dramatically, but it certainly curbs your appetite and would be a good accessory to any weight loss program.

I wouldn't screw around with the alcohol combination.

I used wellbutrin to quit smoking...and well, It made me grumpy...actually every medicine ever makes me feel grumpy so I don't even take aspirin now that I think of it.

As far as eating/weight gain, the equation is simple, the diet industry would assassinate me for spreading this info around.

if you intake more calories than you burn off, you will gain weight.
if you intake less calories than you burn off, you will lose weight.

If you eat the same amount of calories and exercise, you will be healthy and energetic. Make the calories count by lots of vegetables, lots of water, and a balance of other things of your choice. Just count the calories, and count the exercise type vs. calorie burn off.

So easy.

My other experience with wellbutrin is that if you or your significant other is taking it, you will both lose sleep. It sometimes has a side-effect of increased sexual libido. It didn't work that way for me, but it did for my girlfriend...no complaints from me.
