Possibly because of what is know as comobidity, which is 1) multible illnesses 2) medication,3) poor circulation as a good blood supply is needed for healing, 4) lagging metabolism affecting proper nutrition and 5) decreased activity. Increasing activity causes increase in circulation and metabolism

there are several answers to this question, first as you get older your nutritional status decreases, your systems slow down and your kidneys dont filter as well as they used to, you lose skin elasticity, moisture, etc which is the bodys first defense against infection, you dont get the exercise you should, antibiotics effectiveness decreases the more you use it and the older you are- well- the more you have probably taken, etc etc

Such is life. Enjoy youth....we all get old. Growing old has never been explained when it comes to 'why'. We know that certain things slow down and we learn to compensate. Actually, keeping physically active helps more than anything else when it comes to the effects of age.
