Find a way of getting in front of people. Find a situation in which you can succeed. There's nothing like success to breed success.
For me, I was always shy. I was good at playing the clarinet. Forcing myself to play in front of people has helped me be more confident in a crowd, either at a party or in a meeting at work.
There are small everyday ways to exercise confidence:
Order something completely different from what you normally do at a bar or Restaurant.
Answer more frequently in class or volunteer for a project that will get you noticed at work.
Complimenting people might get you noticed. If your genuine about the compliment, they will respect you & want to spend time with you.

I am sure of one thing .... it's that there's some person near to you who is telling you all the time that you are a patheitc or immature ,, if so , prepare for a counter attack ,,, always tell that person that he/she look stupid all the time & try to critisize all her/his actions , he/she will stop criticizing you in return after some time .
to avoid that feeling "patheitc/immature " , always ask yourself 2 question before doing important things :
1- is this action right ? , if answer is yes , do it & let others go to H E LL
2- will it hurt someone ? if answer is no , also go for it & never mind for the others ...

There is a therapeutic trick which worked for me called "Act As If" It is pretty easy. In a social situation where you would usually be a wallflower, "Act As If" you were the same person outside as you are inside. That is, smile at a person, say hello, and ask what is going on with them. Usually, when people get someone who wants to listen, or acts as if they want to listen, they will carry the burden of the conversation, and all you have to do is "Act As If" you are interested. It is hard, at first, and I had to excuse myself to the restroom a couple of times to breathe, but after a while the acting gets easier, and one day you'll find that you are no longer acting like a socially secure person - you will actually BE one! Talk to your doc and get on Paxil or another drug to help you overcome your social anxiety. Paxil and Klonopin have change my life!
