What do you do when an in-law hates you and you have never even been around them to speak of and when you do run in to them the dirty looks scare you.

Your inlaws hate you because you can never be good enough for their kid. They will always hate you, and it has absolutely nothing to do with you.
Move away. Get some space before they screw up your marriage.

Considering you are going to hopefully be in the family for a very long time, perhaps it would be best to talk to them and tell them you get the feeling they don't care for you too much and you would like to know why. You don't specifically state which inlaw is giving you the problem. I would place priority on MIL, FIL, BIL or SIL. Anyone outside of that circle you would certainly want to get along with, but cousins, aunts and uncles generally do not play a major role in family life.

If you think that one of your in-law hates you why, don;t you ask her what it is that is bothering her about you, and that if it is gossip about something you said to bring you the culprit, so that way you can call him/her a liar to their face. That is the only way that you will be able to clear the air of this situation. I hope that you will be able to solve the problem you have.

Stalk them and everywhere you show up at the same place be sure to tell everyone in the room that you married their child
