My boyfriend just broke up with me a few hours ago.
We had been going out for almost a year, and we're crazy for each other. Our friends always joke that we'll end up married some day.
It was an off-on type of thing, but mostly on. We split up for a while after his mom died and was going through some stuff. He's really insecure now, and I think that that could be part of it.
But anyway, what happned is that we just got back together on Friday. We talk on MSN a lot, and I usually have my display name as "Katie<3Grant" I didn't have it that way, since I had just got on and hadn't even thought about changing it yet. He took it as that I didn't care about him, and didn't want anybody to know that we were back together. He said, "If I'm not important enough to you that you don't want your friends to know we are together, than I don't think that we should be."
I think he over-reacted... do you? Is it really that big of a deal that I hadn't put it in there? I need help with what to do!

This guy is definately insecure and sensitive to all that is around him.
Call him up personally and tell him how you feel about the relationship being public. Has there been anything besides you forgetting to change your name that has caused him to think you didn't like it public? Make him feel important, tell him that you just hadn't the time to change it, that you don't mind letting your friends know, past or present or future.
But definately make him feel important if he is important to you. Bake him a "I'm Sorry" cake, his favorite frosting and cake type. Do something a school that singles him out, like a balloon that says, "Happy Valentines!" With a large note that tells him how happy you are to be together with him. Do public things that would tell him that he his important to you, and that shows that you don't mind having people know you are together.
Sometimes the non-verbal way always works best. If you already tried telling him, do something public that proves he's important plus with the subtext that "public" affection or proof that you two are going out doesn't bother you, rather you enjoy letting people know you two are together.

Its really not that big of a deal...yes, you do go out and you've been together for a while, but you dont have to put his name in everything you do and say. If he really cared, he would take you into consideration and think about how you feel on the situation. My boyfriend over-reacts a lot too, so I know how you feel, but you dont have to be put down or sad that he thinks that you dont care about him or wants your relationship to be known world wide.

no its not a big deal , but it makes me wonder if i should have my display name saying my name and who im dating when i gets a boyfriend.
since u know how it made him feel , just till him u didnt mean hes not important enought ,and make sure u always put katie<3Grant for ur display name , so he doesnt feel again that hes not inportant enought . its really a small thing to do for ur boyfriend and he will be happy u did .and Tell him u stil wants to be with him.

I had a difficulty like that earlier. It sucks. yet what I did replace into i talked to the guy i enjoyed and asked him if he thinks it might wreck the friendship between him and your ex. and then if he says no.... attempt to ask your ex if he thinks it is going to or no longer. in the event that they the two say no then your all solid to circulate. the guy you're crushing on sounds incredibly candy, yet i'd nonetheless get to comprehend him a splash greater efficient if I have been you. i'm hoping all of it works out for ya! =] xoxo Ashley

Well i think he did over react and you should tell him that u feel that way!
Tell him that you are still crazy bout him and the you want to still be with him!
Send him a love letter
but don't say ur sorry cause it is not ur fault that he over-reacted!!
Hope it works out!

Whoa. Just tell him that it didn't mean anything. Explain why you hadn't changed it or make something up that would make it better! I would advise this as a last resort.

i definitely think he overreacted. make sure you explain to him why it wasn't like that..and that he knows how much you love him and care about him. even if you have to congess that you were wrong about it..if he loves you the way he used to then he'll forgive you.
good luck.

You need a grand gesture. Something that will make him realise that he is your man.
