there is a chemical in it that is attractive to cats. its called nepetalactone. that gets them "high" however This reaction only lasts for a few minutes before the cat loses interest and it tales a whil;e before they regain interest

it is basically like a temporary drug for them.. like they are getting momentarilly high from it... im pretty sur that is why...
