yea, when they say things like "I know God", or "I know Jesus", they pretty much lose all credibility because if they are willing to lie about this to us and themselves, why should I believe anything they say? It seems to me that their way of thinking is that if they claim to know God, then that makes them a better person in their mythical God's eyes, thus helping to guarantee them a spot in "heaven".

What you are witnessing when Christians hold forth the word of life is prophecy. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Isaiah 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
The problem you're having is that you only have limited rational knowledge. But God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. You can't know him by rational thought alone. The only way that you can have spiritual knowledge is to be born again by the spirit of God, by repenting of sin and believing in the son of God who died on a cruel cross to justify the ungodly.

Well, you may not believe in any god, but that doesn't mean you have to be rude to people who do. We all the right to worship or believe what we want. So what if we think we can talk to God, or that he might actualy talk to us, or that we can get inspiration on daily things to help us in our lives? What does that mean in your life? Nothing. You don't care to learn about the reasons behind this, or why they feel this way, so why even try to explain it? It's like trying to tell someone who has been blind since birth what the color blue is. You can't. So, I'll make a deal with you- you quit asking ignorant questions about things you don't understand, and I'll quit calling your ignorant and unwilling to learn anything.

You know when people say-you just had to be there, after telling a story or something? Well its kind of like that. I dont know what christians are telling you, but if they are true christians, its not junk! It is real. Jesus is real. If you talk to God, by praying to God, he will answer you-not necessarily by speaking directly to you-there are many ways God can answer a question or a prayer. Do yourself a favor-pray to God, try him out, you have nothing to lose. But give him a real chance.

They are talking about the spirit that created the entire world, and I hope you turn to him. if you have a relationship with Christ or not, you can feel him, even hear him. God is real, no matter what dumb scientist says about that. you can either become a christian now, or find out he's real when you die and see him face to face. do you really want to burn in hell? not to be harsh, but that is whats going to happen. your life could end in a split second and nothing is your choice when you die. but it is now, and i suggest you pick up a bible and call a pastor, becuase you don't want to die and not see jesus for the rest of your life.

There is an answer to your question if you are willing to get serious for a second. Forget all about Yahoo Answers and everything else you have ever been taught or heard from anyone to include me. Now... Take a deep breath and find a quiet place. Ask the same question for real. Ask GOD to reveal himself to you. What happens next is your answer.
Shalom!

Thats the difference between believers and atheists, the believers think there is something external corresponding to those brain states, atheists do not.

This is a fundamental question I have for many christians as well. For those christians who claim to "know" their god, what need is there for faith?
I think one of the problems is that some believers confuse faith (belief) and knowledge. I have no problems with people who understand it is faith they believe. If some people claim knowledge, and want me to believe them, I reasonably ask for the evidence that supports such alleged knowledge.

How can we tell you something you cannot see. It would be like me trying to explain colors to a blind person. The spirit of Jesus dwells in the hearts of the believers, it is a supernatural experience. Yes we do know our God.
