Do Christians posting to this site, who constantly use the word 'atheist' as a synonym for 'unthinking, anti-spiritual enemy', realise that it is possible to be an atheist and still actually believe in something?

'A-theist' simply means we do not believe in an almighty god ruling the universe - that is what the prefix 'a-' does to a word: negates it.

I am an a-theist: I do not believe in a single almighty god.

I am a Buddhist: I have a very full and active set of spiritual beliefs.

I hate it when people think that all atheists are empty and careless.

I think the problem is that Christians equate god with good. To them there is no difference. Being an atheist means more than not believing in a god, it also means not believing in goodness.

Perhaps we Christians should start by teaching YOU grammar.

This is not a question of grammar, it's a misunderstanding of what you believe. They say "unthinking, anti-spiritual enemy" because they don't know what you believe.

To be grammatically incorrect, they would have had to leave out the hyphon or get the verb tense wrong.

I guess you could call me a Christian. But my sister is Buddhist, and an atheist, I suppose. I respect her beliefs, and anyones'. To me, being a certain religion doesn't mean imposing judgment on other people. It was a little rude of you to generalize, though. Almost as bad as people generalizing about atheists.

Its very common to see christians with views of atheists as immoral and uneducated. But the opposite is true, most are highly educated, also most are people with religion turned atheist because of lack of proof in the religious teachings they recieved. But, we must respect everyone's opinion and not assume anything. So no, just try to explain to them that you have moral values. If they dont believe you, oh well, they're ignorant.

There should be no problem being an atheist and a Buddhist at the same time. Buddha himself was an atheist!

I will admit, many of the Christians on this site do employ very ineffective assaults for unnecessary reasons. And yes, it does make us Christians look bad. I do not believe athiests are evil, and I certainly do not believe I am superior to others. But it's sad how some on this site do.

Do we have to teach Christians basic English grammar now?

Since the KJV Bible was removed from book shelves there has been a definite deterioration of spelling and sentence structure.

I expect it is simply an indicator of the UTTER LAZINESS of us all.

That's not a grammar problem,it's misuse,perhaps,of a word.
Maybe you should come with us poor, uneducated Christians to take these English classes, since you've made a mistake in your first sentence.

Yep, we knew what it meant, thanks!

Perhaps you've decided this meaning of atheist on your own; it certainly is not what we thought it meant - "unthinking, anti-spiritual enemy"
