i have a 9 month old chocolate chip dalmation. Every night, mostly when she yawns, it sounds like she's trying to cough up a hairball. She just finished medication for an ear infection. Does she just have a cold or is it more severe? Please Help!

Kennell cough sounds like the culprit but this also seems to happen only at night. what about that?

Sounds like she has kennel cough or possibly heartworms.

Heartworms are very hard to treat and IS very deadly if untreated. The only way to find out is by your vet testing.

Otherwise it could be kennel cough and that is also deadly if untreated for a long time. Amoxi tabs will clear that up and you can get it from your vet.

It can also be parfluenza or some other type of respatory issue.

If the coughing is only at night and when she yawns, then it isn't Kennel Cough. Kennel Cough is usually exaserbated by exercise or fast movement not rest. The ear infection may have led to a sinus infection, and when the sinuses drain down the throat the dog coughs. We suggest taking the dog to your vet to get it checked out.

Kennel cough or heart worm. Kennel cough will go away on its own sometimes, but you can get rid of it much more quickly with medication. Heart worm can and will kill. So, just to be sure, take her to the vet for treatment very soon.

Well, I don't know much about sidaphects for medication, but I do now of a minor cold that dogs can get. It's called kenal cough. If she coughs funny sometimes too, that might be what she's got. Good Luck with the pup

Either she has kennel cough, or allerigies- when a dog has kennel cough, they'll sneeze, cough and lie around- ALOT more then usual
if it's allerigies- she's make kind of a slurping choking noise- either way- the vet needs to be visited :0)

This sounds like Kennel Cough. It sounds like their dying kind of. Its real disturbing I know. But its easy to treat. Its called Bordetella (spelling/) anyway its easy to treat and medicine is resonably cheap. Take her to the vet and get some medicine. If you take her now she willl get over it and be perfectly fine.

has she been around other dogs? Kennel cough sometimes sounds like 'choking'...
Defiantly have your vet check her out again-better to be safe than sorry!

Do you have cats?
If so, my dog sometimes gets hairballs because he likes to groom my cats also. Call your vet and tell them your dog has a hairball. They will give you a tablet to give to him when he does get a hairball. The tablet will break up the hairball and he will poo it out
