If you have a dog you are obviously going to get a dog smell. The only way yo can fully prevent that smell is simply by getting rid of the dog. Of course simply by keeping the house clean, tiding up after the puppy and keeping the puppy clean will help the smell becoming overpowering. However that doesn't mean you should give your puppy a bath every day: you should only do so when it is really dirty. Other than that there isn't much you can do. Just stock up on air freshener and cleaning products.

Other than bathing the pet(s), you can do many things. Some methods, like using lots of air fresheners, only cover up the pet smell, and can actually irritate your pet's nose (remember, it's a lot more sensitive than ours). A better idea is to use Fabreze on your home fabrics (couch, bed, etc) at least once a week, mist some Nature's Miracle over your carpet once every week or 2, and keep some of the Fabreze Air Effects around for freshening up the air in your home. These products are all approved for use in homes with pets, and are considered safe for the pets. This system keeps my home from smelling like dog (or cat); I even have people who didn't think I had pets before I showed them, and I have 2 cats and 2 dogs! Good luck with keeping the odor at bay.

no offense to Cindy P. but if you have pets your house is ganna smell like them....its just a fact of life....it might not REAK but people who dont own pets can smell it....You can have a clean house but after all they are dogs and they do give off odors....but to answer the question....I guess just vacuum a lot and bath dogs often and dont let them on furniture that cannot be put in washing machine and use the automatic air fresheners....good luck
I also have just started to foster dogs and the one dog always stunk no matter how many times I bathed her. Come to find out she had a some sort of skin problem that the doctor gave me a special shampoo and oh my goodness you want to talk about making a difference.
Good luck

You need the cleaner with ENZYMES. Pet solution sells 3 different kinds, and only one has enzymes. The others are just perfumes, so you're mixing the smell of pee with the smell of oranges. Yuk. I had a cat with a bladder problem and I use this stuff and you could never tell. Also, clean your furniture if the dogs get on it.

I have 5 dogs, 4 of which are labradors. Our house doesn't smell like dogs. They are all house broken.
We run the vaccum and we keep our house clean. I burn candles on occasion (when they come in wet) and I take them to the groomer at least every 2 months. We wipe their paws and dry them off when they come in the house.
I don't know how to answer your question because we've never had anyone say our house smells. I guess it's because we work to keep it clean.

Maybe Febreeze or a similar product, for couches and chairs and the like, and some Carpet Fresh for when you vacuum--it makes the floors smell better. If you don't have carpets, just use some pinesol or something that has a scent that you like and will kill the odor. Other than that, I don't know :P. Hope this helps.

If your pet has accidents use a cleaner sold at the pet store designed to neutralize the odor. Also, everytime you vacuum, use a carpet cleaner also, it helps to remove odors from the carpet. Don't let your pets on the furniture, and always wipe their feet and fur when its raining outside to help them from tracking in various things from outside. They do make dog cologne and waterless shampoos to help keep your dog smelling decent in between baths/grooming.
