OK I just got myself into trouble for using inadequate terminology - that I wil apolorgise for in this question.

However I cannot find what I need

I used the term 'militant' athiest to describe someone who does not believe in the existance of God - This would make them a strong Athiest. However I also meant someone who feels the need to convert and at the same time insults and uses patronising and incomplete arguements. I thought possible fundermentalist or extreemist athiest but can there be such a thing - and then am I insulting fundermentalists?

What is the correct word(s)?

I think using the term idiot may have got me a violatio but thank you for the suggestion - weak and srong athiest are actually terms used in theology so thats where I got that from.

I thought fundermentalist was simply someone who believed ferverently in their priceples and stuck to them rigidly.

Militant means fight ing or warring and agressive - so actually i think I may have been right in the first place.

Maybe it should be fundermentalist evangelical militant athiest?

I am a Independent Fundamental Baptist. I believe in the King James Version Bible. It is the only true word that was inspired and preserved for the time it was written through today. I am not radical or insult others beliefs. I am very conservative. I belief abortion is wrong, no matter circumstances. A baby is a person upon conception. I think that homosexuality is a sin. This some of my beliefs, I have a firm stand on a lot of issues. I don't get easily offend so feel free to ask me anything.

Hi,
I refer to myself as a "militant agnostic" so if some one takes offense at your use of the term "militant", I would be inclined to say that is more their problem than it is yours.

In my case, I use the term "militant" because not only do I think I do not know if there is a God, or if there is one, I don't think I would have the mental capacity to really comprehend what God is, but because I agressively assert that no one else does either.

Congratulations on your willingness and courage to try to define things on your own terms. I also admire your sensitivity to other's sensibilities as to how they are "classified". I wish I could claim the same, but the fact is that I often don't have the patience.

Militant = someone willing to take up arms
Strong atheist = atheist who believes there is/are no god(s).
fundamentalist= protestant christian who believes in literal interpretation of the bible
need to convert = evangelist
insults = mean and nasty
patronising = condescending
incomplete argument = incomplete argument

Be careful how you use your words.

Damn...I thought I had a new name for myself..."militant atheist". But in reality most atheists, myself included, could really care less what you as an individual believe. And most of us do not try to convert others because WE don't like religion pushed on us. However...keep your religion OUT of our laws and government and OUT of the public school systems.

Ms Taurus - my atheist sister...I must repsectfully disagree with a point you made. I was raised in a strict Southern Baptist home. And I most certainly do not try to push my beliefs on others. I think that growing up christian and having those views pushed on me makes me more sensitive to the fact that others do not like to have beliefs pushed on them. I know what christians are going through and I wouldn't be afraid to bet that there are MANY who have doubts but are afraid to pursue them. It's actually been my experience that those who are raised atheist are more likely to try to convert because they cannot see the christian viewpoint. I would have emailed this to you but you do not allow email.

From the mind of Jim Darwin . . .

Atheism - the belief there is no god

strong atheist - a person who believes god is like santa

weak atheist - a person who thinks god isn't real based on what theyve learned

militant - while the above poster answered with willing to take up arms, we are in the internet no one kills anyone here,

so a militant atheist on yahoo answers is one who goes to every question and says STOP PUTTING YOUR RELIGION ON ME and its annoying,

militant atheists are annoying

i'd say your definitions are correct and you are awesome

Hmm. I kind of like the term "militant" atheist.

If you want to refer to ones that are insulting and patronizing, I believe the correct word is "jerk", not atheist. They come in all colours.

An atheist doesn't believe in god. Period. So you don't need to add 'strong' or 'militant' because atheist means atheist. You've confused it with agnostic, no doubt.

For the kind of person you are describing, the word you are looking for is idiot. I'm comfortable in my views and I don't feel the need to talk someone out of their religion in an attempt to validate my opinion.

first of all it's ATHEISTS.you must know that all atheists have used completed arguements in here many dozen times each..it's just that some times some of us are very very tired plus the fact our accounts have been suspended from the theists reporting-mine was 20 days ago-...

Firstly, you spelled atheist and fundamentalist wrong.

Secondly, there's no type of atheist that fits your description. You're describing an idiot. Those aren't confined to atheists. You find idiots everywhere.
