same as why clorox is bad for us, the chemicals in the chococlate are known as poison for the dogs, pure cocoa is specialy to blame for this act, tho ALL choclate can do bad, it carries the natural chemicals and if the dog eats enough of it, it can die of heart failure and such. Visit your local vet or give him a call if you like to know more imformation.

Dogs don't handle bromoxanthines as well as people do. It's much the same reason we don't put espresso in baby bottles. Other similar situations exist. For instance, aspirin has a half-life of about 4 hours in a human but more like 12 to 16 in a dog.

The amount of caffeine in chocolate is extremely dangerous to dogs. Also, there is another chemical in processed chocolate that a dog's body cannot metabolize. The result is an accelerated heart rate, thus raising the blood pressure and temperature. There is "dog-safe" chocolate, but giving it to your dog encourages them to enjoy the taste, and sets you up for disaster. Most vet offices and emergency vet hospitals have tables cross-referencing the dog's body weight with the amount of chocolate (and other toxins) to determine the degree of emergency. If a dog eats too much chocolate, they do not die of "poisoning" they die usually of heart attack/heart failure or their organs begin shutting down due to the sky-rocketing internal temperature. Bottom line: don't feed your dog anything without consulting your vet. (This includes fruits and vegetables. Things like carrots are great for overweight pets to substitute for fatty treats, but things like grapes have been shown to be linked to kidney failure. ALWAYS consult your vet).

Chocalate is toxic to dogs in high doses. Baking or Dark chocolate is especially bad for dogs. It contains theobromine. Theobromine causes :

Tremors
Seizures
Racing heart rhythm progressing to abnormal rhythms

it's BS. I've had a dog for almost 2 years (still alive lol and never been sick) I gave him KIT-KAT, and all that happened, is that he licked his lips in delight lol. saying that chocolate is bad for dogs is just a scam to get you to buy doggie biscuits (Much like dog food) ( too much WILL hurt them, but just a little is okay)
