Get yourself some Carmex, put it on at night and wear it to bed. Stop licking your lips in the dry, cold weather. If you wear any lipstick or gloss, stop doing that as well. There is something in the lipstick and gloss that actually enhances dry lips. Probably has something to do with "job security".

Also, if you can watch your fat intake, that would help a great deal. Rancid fats contribute to unhealthy skin, hair and in your case, chapped lips. They actually dry out the skin membranes. I wish you luck with this. It really takes some getting use to. Drink only when you are thirsty and make sure that it is lukewarm, warm or room temperature, whatever you drink. Cold drinks also pull oils from the skin and since your drinking these drinks and they touch your lips, they can, in fact, dry them out more than if you didn't drink anything.

Good luck and watch your salt intake! If you want salt, replace hard salt with sea salt, or with Shoyu or Tamari Soy Sauce to help your body stay hydrated.

Don't you just hate winter? The dry air is the main reason people experience flaky splitting skin on the face and lips. After you brush your teeth, while your lips are still wet, take your toothbrush and move it along your lips with soft to medium strokes. It will remove some of the excess skin. I use A&D ointment ( the stuff used on an infants bottom) on my lips and it works great. It doesn't absorb as quickly as chapstick will. It's kinda gross if it gets on your tongue.

If you sleep with your mouth open, put something on them for sure such as Vaseline or carmex or any other lip balm. This will definitely prevent them from drying out at night.
During the day, carmex is really great for protection, but it doesn't do much for HEALING. I would go to a drug store and buy a lip balm that specifically says it heals.
Doing those two things together should do the trick!

I use Accutane for my acne and my lips get chapped like no other! I use Medicated Blistex Lip Ointment and it works SO well!!! Just apply some to your lips but just leave it there, dont spread it. After 5-10 minutes you can spread it and it will feel great!

Don't use chapstick. It will just make your lips worse. It might feel good for awhile but it is not helping. It has the old rebound affect like nosedrops for a stuffy nose. Use a good lip balm. Even a good face moisturizer will be better.
