The Pit Bull arguments...enough already!

I understand both sides and can appreciate the feelings that are stirred up with this topic. Don't you think though that those who are ranting on here should take their arguments somewhere that they might make a difference? Like to their congressmen?

Good point Shepherdgirl. I guess I didn't think about it that way. I'm just tired of the arguments on here I guess. Every other question seems to be about Pits.

Have a great night all...

Actually I can understand the reasoning behind wanting to get the word out. If you can get the average person to listen and maybe learn something and enough people pay attention and become educated on the breed of topic rather then believe the lies and rumors surrounding the breed the odds of the breed being banned can become greatly reduced.
In Illinois they have been trying for at least three years to pass breed specific law deeming 10 breeds dangerous regardless of whether they have bitten or not. My breed of choice is a targeted breed so I not only take my "rantings" to my senators, representatives and aldermen but to all that will listen. I try to inform as many as possible in the hopes they will join the fight. You can not combat ignorance by remaining silent and hoping for the best. People who complain (about those of us who try to get the ignorant to open their eyes and become informed with the truth) do not realize, their breed, like ours, could become next so in a sence it is all breeds that are being fought for.
Just another way to look at it.

It seems like Pits are the breed to hate right now. In the past it's been Rotties and Dobermans.

Personally, I think that the dog, not the breed should be judged. I like the saying, "Blame the deed not the breed." Any dog can be bred or trained to attack. Most people don't realize that Labs bite more people each year than any other breed.

My mom and I do mini schnauzer rescue. We just put a dog down a month ago because of aggressive, unprovoked biting. A mini schnauzer-a breed not considered to be "vicious". We simply couldn't trust the dog.

I don't believe in banning any breed. While Pits are not my favorite breed, I have known a few and have found them all to be very sweet dogs. I've been around dogs my whole life and have found smaller dogs to be way naster than big dogs.

While it's easy to sit around and talk about something, it takes much more effort, time and energy to actually DO something. If people are really concerned about an issue they should take action and get involved or quit complaining.

Well, this wouldn't even be a popular topic if people weren't so hysterical and biased over pit bulls. People like this have never owned any pit bulls, and they'll sit there and give you a big, melodramatic lecture about pit bulls like they're "experts" on the breed. The only thing they "know" about pit bulls are backyard myths and media bias. It's typical. Incidently, I have wrote to my city Mayor when they tried to pass a BSL here a couple years ago, because I own three APBT's -- for 5 years now -- without any "stereotypical" incidents occuring. Only 1% of the entire pit bull population causes trouble, and even then, it's due to irresponsible ownership.

I post alot here on pit bulls I also do a lot in the real world. Because I have posted here people who are fighting BLS as gotten a hold of me I I have been able to get them information they needed. I even have written speeches for those who have no talent in that area. I as post a lot about PETA and other like groups trying to show people the truth about them. In both cases I have done some good, I have had people e-mail me saying what I have said or showed them help them see how wrong they've been. If I can chage just one persons mind it is worth my time.

I do both. I rant and rave when I feel like it, but I also write to any politician who has or plans to enact a bill which would ban a breed which society has come to believe as "inherently" dangerous.

Civil Disobedience is a theory of Thoreau's to rise up against the government which governs too much.
This is a great way to rise up against these most unjust laws.
If someone does have one of these breeds of dog, and they also happen to live in one of the cities with a ban, they ought to keep the dog and refuse to obey the laws which state they cannot keep the dog in the city limits. If enough people do this, the stupid legislators will see that they CANNOT judge a breed by the actions of the few bad dogs!!

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
------This from the Declaration of Independence...a clear statement of why BSL is wrong and we ought to reverse it.

Would you feel the same way if a Pit Bull killed or mauled one of your family members? I don't think you do understand both sides until you experience the loss or maiming of someone you love.

It will never be "enough already" until this breeds stops being allowed to kill or cripple children that do not have a chance of getting away from this strong animal.

I am sorry. I have two dogs of my own. BUT if your Pit Bull attacked someone and I saw it happen, your dog would not exist after that and you would be held responsible because you are as much at fault as the dog is, more really. The dog doesn't know, you do.

Someone suggested everyone just break the law, Oh good suggestion, *rolling eyes*

As for labs being the most bites per year, that would probably because they are the most popular breed, therefore there are a lot more that would bite, that doesn't mean they are more likely to bite.

I agree with you. Furthermore, when both sides go at each other, they start to exaggerate things to win the argument. It's counterproductive. The pitbull is neither an angel, nor a devil. It's a dog.

I agree. I'm against banning any breed, but continuously ranting online isn't going to get me anywhere.
