my cat always sits on my books and notebooks if they're on the bed, and if there is paper on the floor he's usually sleeping on it. Why is that?

I think it's because he knows those are your personal things and feels closer to you. I don't think its necessarily more comfortable for him; he's just trying to make a point. Most cats I've had would just plop down on my papers when I'm writing out bills and stuff. It's like they're saying, "Here I am, now pay attention to me!"

My cat sleeps on my textbooks mainly because I have catnip under the cover..but thats beside the question.I believe that cats like the noise the paper makes when they wake up..as for books I have no idea they just like books

I think they must like the way it feels. My cat has pretty much moved into a shoebox yet has no interest in the nice fuzzy beds we buy her.

Mine do it too. Strange little beings they are. It is just what they perfer. Like we would have 300 thread sheets to a card board box. Kitty stuff.

Is it because it's cool? I have a cat that loves to sit on my toilet seat.
