Over 2 years ago i had a major car accident. I was hit head on by a drink driver. No real physical damage but it messed with my head. For a long time i could't get into a car, I stopped leaving my house for a bit and i have never driven a car since. We are till going through all the legal crap but I have no idea what we can expect to get from it. Im not in it for the money but I do need it to help with my recovery.
Has anyone been in a simular situation? If so how did you get past it and what was the out come?

I was ran over by a car in2000, I received 10.000 from the company I was working for. after the lawyer got through with it I received 7,000. to make it short from 100.000 to 50.000 to 20.000, I recieved nothing, because my insurance and his insurance got credited for the whole thing, since my workmen comp was over 30.000. and now I have a rod, pin and plate in my leg for the rest of my life. and I am thankful that I am alive. and thats really all that counts. and really nothing happen to the guy that ran me over but 5 years of heavy probation, he was on drugs and drinking, and ran me over on purpose. so now I just live every day. and taking care of my mom. I do hope you get something out of it. it took til 2006 close to this year to find out I don't get nothing. Hope it does not happen to you. good luck.
P.S. don't be afraid of getting into a car or even drive. be strong and don't let that stop you. and be thankful you are alive.

I was in a near fatal car accident about 11 years ago. I had a traumatic brain injury. I have had driving anxiety that comes and goes ever since. It is getting easier now that I am driving more. As far as the legal aspect goes, I settled out of court for 140,000. The money is nice to have, but for me it hasn't even covered all of the time I spent recoperating with the memory problems and the anxiety, and the memories I lost from my childhood. I don't know if the wreck actually gave you a concussion or TBI, but if it did, you can know it is going to get easier, but may take awhile, 5 years post trauma is a major turning point, and 10 you will feel a difference. Ten seems like a long time I know, but it will get easier. I hope this helped. There are multiple on line sites for alot of this like tbisupport.com

My sister at 17 years old was going with some friends skating. They ahd to make a left turn and were sitting in the turning lane when someone came flying down the opposit way and hit them head on. Mys sister at the time didnt have her liscense yet. She had a concusion, One person had a brike leg the other two had minor injuries. Mysister did not drive for 3 yeras after that. Had no intintions of it either until she got pregnant and had to. Then after her first child was born another accident. happened when someone hit her in the side. That frieked her out again. I had a small accident and didnt drive anywhere but exactly where i needed to go for years . Im still real cautious and scared at times. My sisters daughter had a tractor trailor truck back up while she was going down a 55 mile an hour road. the truck drug her 50 ft back noticed she was hooked and drug her 50 ft back. She is a brave girl and has went on with everything but still ahs a lawsuit pending. It knocked her front teeth up into the roof of her mouth. since she is only 18 her mouth is still growing. It may take years until they settle. What Im saying is youve got to move on. My niece has college. My siter had babies and you you ahve a life..

I fell asleep at the wheel and flipped my car. I was uninjured and I didn't hit anyone, but I have a huge anxiety about driving and especially driving at night. For a while I didn't leave the house, and if I have to drive myself somewhere I will often make excuses not to go there. I don't have as much of a problem when other people are driving.

There is a therapy called EMDR (google it) that is very very helpful for post traumatic stress. Which is what you are dealing with. Seriously consider it. I have found that the therapists that use this type of therapy are really cool people too. Which is important for recovery.

A friend of mine went through this a while ago. he was in a coma for a couple of months and lost his brother. you should go to a therapist and talk to him/her. also talk to a doctor about it.
