I trucked with the Christ Brothers for three years, 80-83, it was the best experience of my life. I was a Vietnam Vet who had just finished 6 years on the GI bill and still could not bring my self to join my society. Living the Life of Christ was the challenge that finally made some since, so I grabbed an opportunity that many passed by. I wasn t drawn into the core group and that suited me fine cause I was a loner already. Joseph (sprouts), the first Brother I met, instilled a desire in me to become a Christ Brother and that is all I wanted, the Family part, I just kind of went along with. The real happening, was the pilgrimage. The Brothers had that down, life on the road, with a bedroll on your shoulder, preaching peace and the Kingdom on Earth, like the Lord s Prayer calls for ! Anyway, I ll always be feeling good that I got a chance to live that way. Where the Christ Family ended up has never been a problem to me. I only have control of my own Walk through this world. Thanks Amen, for showing the Brother, who showed the Brother, who showed me.

I know about the Christ family, and Amen. The good the bad and some of the ugly. I met them when I was a child more then35 yrs ago and have continued to watch and study. I have experience with deprogrammers, and the term, " in the wind". when David K. burned the children in Waco TX, it was one of the Christ family "Brothers", that the ATF & FBI brought in to talk him down...They were to late. I'm not here to say that there wasn't drugs and abuse involved...there are in any walks in life.. But to only listen to the bad, means a lot of good is being forgotten. Something can not be determined as bad if good didn't come first. I'm sure many have lost their way.. It does not take a man claiming to be the son of God to make people take off their shoes, give away their worldly possessions and use meth... Think about it, I mean really think about it, can you honestly say you never wanted to walk out the front door with nothing, and just disappear...from what ever was grounding you to your pain,, and just go...where ever the wind goes... To the post I am answering, I don't know if you will ever read this, but thank you for the question. It has aloud me to open up some closed doors... BellaBlue

I was involved with them in the wind for two years during the late 1970s early 1980s. During that time I met Charles McHugh aka Lightning Amen three times each averaging a week in camp.We were a bunch of young people who had become disillusioned from life and we intrigued by their message. Was there drugs involved? Marijuana, yes but it was the only one I ever saw during my time with them. Remember this was a time shortly after Vietnam and the massive auto industry layoffs had just taken place. I met them in a small town in Indiana. My biggest disillusion was that they preached "No killing", "No Sex", and "No materialism" but that only applied to the low and mid level puppets. Charles and his higher up buddies didn't follow it much like the many churches I went to as a boy so I left. The other problem I had with them was the way they distorted the bible. For example, in Acts Jesus is lifted into the sky and received by the clouds and the angels told them that Jesus would return in the same manner for every eye to see. When I asked Charles about this he told me he would reveal himself through the clouds and confusion in our minds. Jesus didn't leave the disciples confused. He left them promising to send the Holy Spirit to guide them but he didn't leave them confused. The first time I met Charles McHugh was on the Wildlife Reserve along the Colorado River just outside Blythe California. About halfway out the dirt road to where he camped was a halfway house for drug addicts. I still wonder if that was a coincidence. Hope this helps.

They lived in Sage, outside of Hemet, CA. I saw them a few times on the street, or in the library in the 70s or 80s. I had a conversation with one of them once. He didn t try to recruit or convert me. The only thing specific I remember was their hygiene/grooming. They smelled really bad and an old lady had a big mole on her chin with inch long hairs growing out of it.
