Why do so many people here feel that they can learn science from a clergyman and then debate scientific principles with scientists? I see it all the time . . . "I can prove that evolution is wrong" or "Evolution is impossible. Many scientists agree."
Where did these people learn about science . . . in Sunday school? Do they even know what the Scientific Method is? They often talk derisively about what they call the theory of evolution. Do they even know what a theory is?
I doubt it. I guess you just don't learn these things when you learn science from the church lady.
(They know donkey's talk though. They're pretty darned sure about that.)

They're not much as historians either. I saw one the other day who told everyone that James Madison said that we're a Christian nation guiding by the Ten Commandments. Madison never said any such thing. But that didn't matter to this guy. He was going to say it even if it wasn't true.
Here is something that Madison really did say:
"Every new & successful example of a perfect separation between ecclesiastical and civil matters is of importance."
James Madison, letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822
(separation of church and state anyone?)

I've even seen the quote "don't answer with your science nonsense" several times, and I'm pretty sure they were serious--frightening, isn't it? these people are allowed to vote

I have a slight problem with your hypothesis. You really need more observable information to convince me otherwise. Apparently a fact is not a fact in evolution, but a theory. A theory is never a fact. The fact is the only type of evolution we can observe is the aging process. Other species are not evolving from this fact but yet it is happening. I particularly enjoyed reading the last part of this short manuscript. I will continue believing in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. At least I have the happy opinion that I exist.

Ty,
I doubt that you have a science degree that is any better than mine. One of our preachers actually is a biology teacher at a local High School. He is in the Military and has an advanced degree in the sciences also. My BA was a dual major in Mathematics & Education with a minor in Physics. I had additional work/classes in Chemistry and Biology. My guess is that you graduated from a High School somewhere, Right? The degree or education is not nearly as important as being able to understand that Evolution is NOT PROVABLE it is a Theory and is very highly speculative at best. The holes in it are very large and yet people like yourself so want it to look good to be on satan's good side. I am sorry that you probably did not finish reading this. I hope that you are able, some day to find the truth in Christianity. GOD actually wants all of HIS CHILDREN to be saved. Have a great day.

Listen you have no proof of evolution as you see it. It is not scientific fact it can't be because it can't be tested. You don't know what you think you do. Science is based on tested fact right. Well show me the tests and data collected from them on evolution. You can't, there are none all there is is circumstantial evidence and hypothesis. No one we know was there no one can go back and no new species are being formed today that we can tell.

Unfortunately I think a lot of this is due, here in the U.S. anyway, to a poor public education system. Plus, a lot of people think of learning as a right instead of a privilege. We are very privileged in this country to have public education accessible to all people. It's just too bad that we keep cutting funding for that education. Plus - we have a society that doesn't value intelligence. Look how much flack "nerds" get from their classmates for being smart. Worth is often based on beauty instead of intelligence.

Because my pastor was a Jesuit with a Ph.D in mathematics who was one of the most brilliant men I've ever met. He was capable of matching wits (and winning) with anyone on just about any topic you could come up with. He had a string of educational credentials that were nothing short of amazing, and he was as well-read as any human being ever gets to be.
That's why if he made a point about anything -- be it theology, science, or tomorrow's weather -- I had no trouble verifying the information and accepting it. I do miss that man and his wit, knowledge base, and wisdom.
(He's not dead. . .I moved to another state, that's all.)
Next question? :-)

Well the fact is a clergyman can be a scientist. You on the other hand prove to be an idiot. I'll go with the scientist clergyman. Many clergymen agree with the theory of evolution.

That's funny because I have learned a great deal about science and evolution (which he deems as a fact) from my minister.
Try not to assume that all religions are anti science.

Based on my personal experience I find that it seems to be a struggle for some who call themselves "ministers" to even preach God's word competently.
