I have a lineolated parrot (a male) and would like to get him another bird for companionship. Can a linnie and a budgie share a cage?

I wouldn't do it. There could be problems when you are not around and one could get hurt.

You can place their cages next to each other and let them play together under supervision.

Do not place them near each other until the new bird has been quarentined for at leeast 30 days!

nah defenitly not. the budgie could get hurt to easily. plus if you have had the lineolated parrot for quite some time he will be very protective of his cage and toys.
if you really want to get a friend for the lineolated parrot i'd say buy another cage keep them next to each other just not in the same cage.
let them out together would be fine only when you are watching.
it all depends on the lineolated parrot.

Get your linnie a girl! Just in time for Valentine's day! Don't waste your money on a budgie.
