hi there,
i'm posting for a friend who doesnt have a computer so firstly pls understand that this question is not for me.
my friend has noticed that lately when her dogs toilet, there is a "jelly" like substance (clear coloured) in small amounts around the edges of some of the stool.
she has asked for my opinion on this and i have given it to her, but thought that she my like some more opinions. she has booked the dog into the vet to check it out, but thats not till the day after tomorrow, so until then we thought that we may get some more thoughts on this?
the dog is fully vaccinated, wormed etc. has no visible health issues etc. she is eating raw kangaroo mince (which has good fatty deposits in it).

any thoughts? (other than "take it to the vet" because, as i said, the dog is booked in)

...again, this question is not about my dog.

thanks! =)

Sounds like coccidiosis to me. Sometimes that is hard to get to show up in samples, and dogs continue to test negative even though jelly and some blood may be present in the stool. Below is a website that has some remedies and a description. The remedies wouldn't cause much harm even if the sample showed negative.

The "jelly" like substance is mucus, and usually means that the dog has a bowel infection (like colitis). The 'roo mince might be way too rich for the dog.

Until your friend can get her dog to the vet, stop feeding the dog for 24 hours so its bowels have a chance to calm down. Then start it on a very bland diet of boiled rice and hamburger. This will fill the dog up while still being easy on her insides.

when the dog goes to the vet make sure your friend takes along a sample of the dog's poop for the vet to check.

The "jelly" may be mucous in the stool and may be caused by a condition called colitis. In extreme cases, there may be traces of blood in the stool. Only a vet can make an accurate diagnosis.

VET verify. because of the fact the Vet can verify the stool for styles of worms and if the canines is actual infested the Vet will probable could retreat the canines particularly some situations. additionally, tapeworms are in many situations dealt with with a various medicine. some OTC worming products could make canines unwell.

It's mucus. If not accompanied by blood, I don't think it's an emergency. But you might still want to collect a specimen and take to your vet just to be certain.

Sounds like worms.Bring a fresh "sample" in a jar to the vet. There are many different types of worms & he will be able to diagnos what type it is & give meds accordenly. Some cannot be seen with the human eye.

It's a good thing she's going to the vet. She might be pregnant.
Sorry, but that's all I can say. Hope it helps!

dogs produce a secretion from their anal glands that helps the poop flow out easily, like a lube. maybe its just a little extra lube. my in-laws dog had to go to the vet once and get her anal glands squeezed because they got too full and it built up in there.
