You wil get a good tan even with sunscreen. Dont forget it takes at least 30 minutes for the sunscreen to react with your skin. Put it on before you you hit the deck. Also, the sun in the caribbean is sooooo much stronger, you are closer to the equator after all. I learned this the hard way. So did hundreds of other people on all 4 of my cruises evidenced by all the very pink skin at dinner. Can you say Lobster????

Find out if your ship has a special tanning deck. I know Carnival cruises usually have one. That or lay out on the pool deck, you should use a little sunscreen just to make sure you don't burn because the sun in the Caribbean is really strong. If you do burn, bring aloe vera and rub it on your skin so your burn won't turn too bad.

You could always use baby oil like people used to in the old days to get a tan. But I'd probably just lay out with a little light sunscreen and see what happened. Worse comes to worse: get a spray tan and say it's real. :)

Good luck!

For all those people who said you WILL tan in the Caribbean - they are wrong. I have lived in Barabdos for 2 years, we hike and run, snorkle and beach walk, and I wear sunscreen. I certainly have more feckles than when I came but I still do not tan.
I can not emphasize enough - WEAR SUN SCREEN. If you do not tan, and go back to work and people ask were you not just away you can answer them with "I am a smart cookie, I used sunscreen everyday." Ask Nicole Kidman what she thinks. Did you know that women who have a breast removed from Breast cancer are told to even wear sun screen under their clothes? I have freckles on my stomach and it has never been exposed to direct sunlight!
Wear Sunscreen, every day! You'll be glad you did.

if you're going to the carribean, you will get tan. the best thing to do is to wear spf 30, seriously, and no less. If you don't put it on, you WILL burn and that will make your skin dry out faster and you'll basically lose the tan really quick. Keep your skin really moist after the cruise too. You dont need to worry about getting a tan because you will get one... I just got back from a carribean cruise and i don't ever lay out because i think tanning is stupid for people who just dont get outside, but i came back super tan. then again, i was out doing a lot of stuff every day.
