do you possibly have a urinary infection? Does the pain hurt more when you move? If it does, it's more than likely muscular in origin. If it doesn't, and it's more to one side or the other, near the flanks, you could have a urinary tract infection. Any fever, frequency, burning? Probably UTI. Either way, you should let your doc know. could it have anything to do with positioning for the test?

I've been a nurse for over 30 yrs and also had these procedures. I never heard of anyone complaining about lower back pain after a colonoscopy. There's always a first for everything though. Your best bet is to see an Orthopedic doctor, get an x-ray or MRI. It sounds like just coincidence but you obviously have something wrong. Pain is always a sign that your body gives you to let you know something is wrong. Get it checked out soon.

Hi Pam. There can be two different causes of your back pain.
First, the pain might be 'referred pain' from internal injury that resulted from the colonoscopy. You need to see the gastroenterologist again to rule this out.
Second, the pain can be caused by biomechanical problems in your lower back or pelvis (which might be caused or aggravated by the 'trauma' of the colonoscopy). The positional pattern of your pain (pain only when lying on your back) suggests, but does not prove, a biomechanical problem. A good Chiropractor can help you with this.
My suggestion is to see the gastroenterologist first. If he/she rules out any internal injury as the source of pain, then see your family chiropractor.
Best wishes and good luck.
