It's lousy. It de-motivates students of all ages, it allows unqualified, lazy teachers to 'teach'. It permits students that have no business in the classroom in the first place. My meaning there is simple. Some students aren't there to learn, even if the conditions were ideal. Those idiots need to be ejected from the classroom. They do nothing but hold up everyone else and choke the 'system'.
Materials are outdated. Teachers are teaching courses they have no background, talent, knowledge or interest in.
The educational system is a shambles. We are being beaten by many other countries. Students in other countries are 2, maybe 3 years ahead of us. They come here and sit in our kindergarten quantum physics classes and ace everything because they had that stuff years before we get to it.
They actually get educated in their own countries, and then flee and come here to our educational system and fly thru it with little trouble and then quickly gain benefits ahead of us all here.
We vote morons into our primary and secondary educational systems here. Pay huge dollars to send kids to 'better' private schools because that's about the last (and best) chance for a decent 'public' education.
Even those are not that great....so much so that there is a quickly ramping up of people home-schooling their kids.
People say home-schooling lack the 'socialization'........what socialization? Dodging fights, bullets, pimple-faced dickheads still wearing mullets passing meth-lab plans around during study hall, and perverted teachers molesting our children because the fatass sitting in administration chowing a twinkie is too busy to check backgrounds because it interferes with editing that one pic of their curdled, cottage cheese shapen áss_shot on MySpace?
Yet administrators and superintendents scream and holler for school levies to be passed and they cruise around in their hummers and catty's and lincolns putting up signs in neighborhoods about who we all need to pull together to make the schools great or they will cut this or that, but how many of these people pass up a raise when they are already making $185k per year?
There is too much focus on 'talk'........on money........on displayes...........not enough action..........allocation........and priorities.

I was going to give a long and eloquent answer, but I think fizixx said most of it.
The only thing I found missing was what I said in your last school question.. about parents not instilling a sense of responsibility in their children for their actions, and the system's inability to maintain any kind of control. :)

Which education system? On the east coast or on the west coast or in between? Public or private?
Your question is vague. You need to specify.

Too many quotas...not enough testing...
Lowered expectations have ruined the education system.

I think it sucks. I also don't think it is going to get any better. That is because the people running this country don't want people who can think for themselves. That is not a part of their agenda.
