Odd answers so far. First, the "baby names" sites are for FIRST names (given names) NOT surnames. They are also notoriously inconsistent -- that is, they mix good information with a lot of questionable material. (And the 'internetree' page is just a general paragraph about some ways surnames began to be used.)
