Totally normal. Cats purr to express a wide range of emotions from contentment to pain. Kittens purr quite a bit in my experience (much the same way human babies cry and coo). But then, as they mature, they quiet down a bit. And it might change many times over the course of your cat's life. We adopted our male when he was about 2 years old, and he was always a quiet purrer....up until about 6 months ago. He's become quite a bit louder since then. So I think it goes in stages.
And those vibrations you're feeling are probably exactly what you suspect they are; soft purring from your content cat:)

Yes it is normal. Cats start purring when they are kittens. They may purr when they are sleeping, content, or secure. Some cats purr if they are scared or sick too. And some have a softer purr you may not notice so much. Purring comes from a vibration in the wall of one of the major blood vessels in the chest. The vibrations are transmitted to the cat's upper air passages, which makes the purring sound.

Nothing is wrong with your sweet little cat. Cats don't purr all of the time. He may have as a kitten but he is older now and he sounds like a happy, healthy, normal cat. Just enjoy his company, and he is probably purring softly when he vibrates so he is definitly content

You obviously have a uniquely amazing and beautiful bond between each other. Cats tend to do this naturally when they feel comforted, relaxed and non-perplexed. They are showing their love towards you and how happy you make the cat feel. Also,it may be craving a bit of a love and seeking attention-it obviously likes you and shows excessive attention:) Licking of cats and dogs is a domestic animals way of cleaning you-sort of like a kiss.... It shows that it wants the best for you and is nurturing you :)
