Normally with the first round so that if more people join you it is possible to say it more often.
It is also a cultural thing as it is sometimes used instead of a thank you. If some one fills up your glass, or does you a favour perhaps at work or the garage etc.
I guess its where you come from and what you feel comfortable with.
