Recently I have been noticing a fair amount of blood in my stool. I have a pretty good idea it is from (without getting to graphic) straining to push out rather large and hard "pebbles" of poo, which seem to have caused a small split or cut in my anus. It is visible with a strategically placed mirror after the deed is done and I have cleaned up. My first idea was to let it heal, but having to go every other day only aggravates it and drip, drip drip, more blood in the toilet.

What is most ironic about my situation is that I have been traveling Mexico for a month. I have never had to strain to do a number 2 after being in Mexico because usually the opposite is the case...this is a first! Yup, let the jokes begin...but if anyone has an honest to goodness idea of what to do (besides "go to the doctor"), please let me know.

Thanks

sometimes it can be something called a fissue. i think that they can heal, but i also think that some have to be surgially treated. look that up. i do not know why being in mexico would cause the "pebbles" if you are otherwise feeling good, but you can also try a hemerroid cream like anusol. they are thick and protect the area that is trying to heal from further irritation. if it does not seem better within a few weeks of trying this, then it is deffinately wise to see a doctor...

i think you are right on the mark that you have slightly torn the area around your anus. 2 things i would suggest: first, put bacitracin ointment on the area after every toilet sitting. (don't use neosporin as 10% of the population can have an allergic reaction to it.) second, and you will love this, eat prunes or take laxatives so that your stools are soft and somewhat runny (i know it all sounds gross...) you need to heal the area and larger stools will prevent it from healing as fast. if you continue to have problems after 2 weeks i would see a doctor. happy trails!!
