i cant figure it out, when i use marijuana it helps me deal with my depression and anxiety, it works very well, it does all the things that the prescription drugs claim to do. and the side efects are not as bad. some one told me thats because its the high i was feeling, well if that high feeling makes me want to live life again i chose life aposed to the alternative. going from doctor to doctor, trying pill after pill, and then sufering the side afects, i beleive marijuana can not treat every one, am i right in thinking that other people that suffer from depression might be jealous that theres some thing out there that helps some people, and this is the big ? that i would like some one to anser for me. if marijuana does not help people with depression then why do so many people say that it does, and why have doctors prescribed it to people for this reason. is every one lieing, are the doctors just giving marijuana to people for no good reason,

I am 100% anti - dugs, even marijuana.

It is illegal for a reason. If it was so medicinal, it would be available legally for certain people.

Marijuana will NOT help your depression or anxiety, it will make it worse. Maybe not in the short term, but definately long term.

Hi there,
Ok, I'll give you a good points list and a bad points list!
Good points: Good as a muscle relaxant - can stop spasms, such as from irritable bowel syndrome or Multiple Sclerosis so a lot of sufferers of pain of this type can get relief from this. It can make you feel relaxed or sleepy therefore aids sleep and can lessen stress/anxiety because of this.
Bad points: In people who are susceptible to mental health issues, the use of this substance can activate these and paranoia is a very common problem. You can become psychologically dependent on this (but not biologically). Obviously, the sleepiness could impair your ability to perform skilled tasks, such as driving or operating machinery. As with any drug, it is essential that you do not try to do such things if you are affected in this way. Damage can be caused if you are smoking it with tobacco. If you are in the UK, it is also illegal, although, as you are aware, doctors do "off the record" recommend it to some patients, when, for example, other types of pain relief haven't worked.
I think marijuana would certainly not be for everyone but there is no doubt that some people have been helped, even if temporarily, from its use. For this reason, I think medical use should be allowed, under strict guidelines from health professionals and for everyone that uses it - bear all points in mind, be careful with driving etc and be responsible with it.
I hope this helps! Best wishes,
Catwoman Alex. X

I have no problem with people using marijuana for a true medicinal purpose. It's so-called recreational use that I am against.

It's often believed to be a drug with no side-effects, no addictive etc etc. Wrong. It's still a drug. We have enough problems with people these days without having them going around high on drugs.

Depression and anxiety is better dealt with by counselling and prescription medication under proper medical advice. If you're just smoking marijuana to "treat" it, you're not actually treating it. You're just getting high to forget the problem. And when you come down off that high, the problem is still there. So it's purely an avoidance tactic.

Despite the many PC advise and the drop in it's legal status, this is bad stuff....honest. Long term studies show a significant increase in both low grade and serious mental disease in chronic users. I have certainly seen significant numbers of patients who have developed depression and more worrying schizo affective disorders. There is some scanning evidence of physical brain damage and brain shrinkage.

Also don't let anyone tell you it is not addictive! I have dozens of youngsters who just can't get off it.

I think people are just highly programmed to believe marijuana is a bad and addictive drug. Most people don't take the time to read into things they have been taught, and to read the real research that has been done into the benefits and dangers of this. They just "know" that it is bad because its socially unacceptable. Of course its not for everyone, but it is really helpful for alot of people like you, and much more natural than antidepressant pills. I wish people would take the time to look into actual information on medical marijuana. They would be surprised.
