I am looking for a reliable - long lasting through the night either Torch or lantern thats powered by a Lithium ION battery with dimmer controls. Have tried Amazon, and they have a few, but not with dimmers or remotes. Can anyone suggest anything? Must be cheap, reliable, long lasting, dimmer control, and NOT fluorescent.

I dont think you'll find that sort of spec. certainly not 'cheap'! What about an LED type??

Texsport makes a lantern similar in style to a Coleman lantern that has a remote control which works up to around 45 feet. It calls for alkaline batteries (D cells) but as you probably know, you can use any D cells such as rechargeables of assorted types. I've used it for several years with no problems. I got it for 10 dollars on a promotion at one of our local sport shops (Big 5) but they sell regular price for under $25.

they have a wide range of torches, go for a LED type as they don't take as much current as the usual bulb type, and try to get a rechargeable one so you won't have to keep on buying batteries, and LEDS last a very long time and don't produce heat.
