Your best to wait a couple of months if your in the UK.

Your best off buying a newly fledged baby as a pet and they tend to be available from mid to late April.

Try and find someone who breeds them rather than buying from a pet shop-look in bird magazines in big newsagents, also check free ad papers. If you ask most breeders will handle a chick from a few days old to get it used to humans and for a higher fee you can buy 1 hand reared and already fully tame.

As for names-that is up to you.Wait and see what the budgie looks like and what personality it has.

There is no best time to purchase other than when you can afford one and properly care for it.

This means, a proper diet, vet care, toys, and a large cage.
