When cleansing a tool in the wiccan religion, you use salt, water & incense. Cleansing is a necessary part of consecration, but it is not the only step necessary. By asperging or sprinkling salt water upon a specific tool, you are cleansing it by the elements of earth & water, by passing the tool through the incense smoke you are cleansing it by fire & air. Once the tool is purified then it is ready for consecration. It is usually done in the name of a chosen diety (your matron or patron), usually by a poem (spell in rhyme) or by some other means of connecting you with the diety through the use of the tool, either a drop of blood, (or other boldily fluid) or by wrapping it in an unwashed item of your clothing . Consecration of tools is used to bond your tools to you and to aid you in connecting with the divine. How ever you wish to represent that connection is how you should consecrate your tools.

Edit:
Tools are not consecrated by direction, they are cleansed by the elements, and consecrated by the gods.

Just to address what "The Notorious Doctor Zoom Zoom" a supposed "ex wiccan" said. They would have done well to have researched their former religion a bit more thoroughly. Gardner did dramatize allot of things as he was trying to put it all out to the public. However he did not lie about being initiated into a new forest coven, While there is no conclusive evidence of this, there is certainly no evidence of it being a lie.. And he did not plagiarize anything from Crowley, Crowley initiated him into the OTO and Gardner was held in high regard by Crowley and the OTO and was expected to take charge after Crowley died. Which he decided not to do, and instead pursue the promotion of witchcraft. He was also, like Crowley, a Freemason and a member of the Golden Dawn.. both of which influenced his Wicca. Wicca is a mixture of Western Esoteric and magical works mixed up with traditional witchcraft, to create an initiatic religion called Wicca, this was always how it was and was always easy to research.. Regarding Wicca practicing Masochism?, Her comments prove to me she has never been a Wiccan, as that comment is utter crud. The practices of Wicca have nothing to do with any sexual activity or masochism. Many books now have addressed the use of it particularly during an initiation. This is not a sexual act or a kinky one, its simply symbolic of the power of the coven, it is gently used. The scourge represents power and will. However, if a couple both practice Wicca and would like to have sex or be kinky, then of course the religion urges them to do it as much as they like, this is up to the individuals, in their own space and time and privacy. While Wicca rituals are very Intimate and Sky Clad, they do not consist of sexual acts and if you have been asked to do one then you have been tricked and are not really in a Wiccan Coven! I am in a Gardinerian Coven and if anyone imposed there sexual urges on anyone else, not only would they stand out like a saw thumb but they would be kicked out in a second.

Regarding the main point of consecration. what needs to be done in your circle is to ask the goddess and god to bless the item with each four elements, You do think buy having each element present.. Water, Candle, Incense & a Earth element (disk) .. touch each element with the item and ask the God and Goddess to bless and consecrate it... If you do it within a Covens circle they will have their own ways of doing this that may differ depending on their tradition..

And Remember, Just because Wicca is a fertility religion it does not mean Covens all jump around having kinky sex. There is plenty of time for that in their own lives and plenty of it they are likely to do, but that's not why they joined a coven! :)

The quick ways:
Dip in sea salt, or wrap in a white cloth and sprinkle with sea salt.
Dip in or drip Rain Water over it.
Leave it out during a Full Moon.
(Or, if the tool is hearty, such as a gem, soak it in rain water with sea salt in it, and leave it out in the Full Moon)

You could also do a full out ritual.
You will need salt in the north, sage/incense in the east, fire/a candle in the south, and water in the west. Call the elements to protect you, your god and goddess of your choice to aid you, then dip the tool in each element, saying something like:
In the name of Earth and North, I consecrate this (whatever the tool may be). Follow with Air-East, South-Fire, and West-Water, dipping this tool in each elemental representation.

I hope this helps, but you can chat me if you would like, or have any other Q's!

There are several different ways of consecrating a tool, but probably the most common is a consecration of the elements -- consecrating the tool with salt, water, fire, and incense.

Another method of consecration is to dedicate the tool to the Gods.

Email me if you want more details. I don't feel particularly inclined to reveal the details of such a ritual on a public board, where people probably wouldn't understand what I was doing by taking up so much space.

With a question like that, all you're going to get is what people have read from books, or something they've made up themselves. You're bound to get more than two ways.

Let's start with the real history of Wicca. It was started by Gerald Gardner circa 1950 who lied and said he had found a stone age cult of Pagans that had somehow hid in the tiny British Isles where nothing stays hidden for long...let alone 50,000 years. He was a disciple of Aleister Crowley from who he plagarized many writings for the BoS. Like most "witchcraft cults" before (Hellfire Club, LaVisosin, etc.), it started as a sex club. He was a nudist & masochist who liked to be tied up and beaten by strong willed women, and coincidentally (if you're dense), his magic witch cult just happen to practice these things.

Adian Kelly wrote a book on the history of Wicca called "Crafting The Art of Magic" in the 1980's. Wiccans had a fit when it was published, and pressured Llewellyn to take it out of print. It was supposed to be the first in a series of books. I think Adian Kelly probably summed it up best when he said this about the Gardnerian "Book of Shadows", the closest thing Wicca has to a sacred book:

" [M]any of the Book of Shadows rituals did not exist in 1954 (when Witchcraft Today was published) but instead were still being written. [T]he major sources from which the rituals had been constructed included: (a) Mather's edition of the Greater Key of Solomon; (b) Aleister Crowley's Magic in Theory and Practice; (c) Leland's Aradia (d) some Masonic rituals akin to those described by Duncan and those of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (aside from those transmitted by Crowley; and (e) Margaret Murray's The Witch Cult in Western Europe. There were also bits and pieces from other works by Leland, Jane E. Harrison, Gilbert Murray, James Frazier, and other great classicists from the 19th century. That accounted for EVERYTHING in the rituals! There was nothing left that differed in any important way from what you can find in those sources- - but that is NOT at all what Gardner had claimed!"

before everything there's a difference between cleansing and consecrating. cleansing is something it fairly is now and returned carried out to purify the energies residing in an merchandise. Consecrating is dedicating an merchandise to sacred makes use of. There are as many the thank you to do the two considered one of those issues as there are people who do it. i'm going with to no longer consecrate my kit via fact I oftentimes positioned my ritual kit to non-ritual makes use of. It helps my religious existence to overflow into my typical existence via moving religious potential into all the nooks and crannies of on a regular basis residing. in case you go with to consecrate your kit, besides the undeniable fact that, all it takes is a common assertion to that consequence. Lay your gadget on your altar and once you return to the working element of your ritual basically factor to the gadget and say something like I ask the Lord and lady to witness that this "gadget" is consecrated to ritual use in service of ... So mote that's" I cleanse new kit via exhibiting them on my everlasting altar for an afternoon or 2. i've got faith that the altar keeps residual ritual potential and has that's own advantages and protections which cost and alter something laying there. i'd by no potential use salt or water as the two can injury powerful kit. Ditto for burying something. in case you haven't any longer have been given an altar, easy some sage in ritual and bypass the gadget throughout the smoke some situations saying something like 'via this action you're cleansed and purified and your energies made finished and organic.' I recommend which you detect it sluggish to verify ritual and formality components. mutually as Mr Cunningham's e book delivers solid uncomplicated expertise that's via no potential the be all and end centred on solitary ritual. I assure you which you will locate your rituals greater satisfying and greater spiritually satisfying in case you already know why you do what you do and in case you tailor your rituals to in effective condition the style you paintings and the style you think of and the style you respond. Rituals carried out via rote out of a e book via fact somebody else did it that way, whether that somebody is Scott Cunningham, will rob you of experiencing the finished impression and income that "solid" ritual is able to offering.

In Wicca you just make it up as you go along. There are no detailed procedures like other religions.
