JetBlue is better than AirTran. Southwest Airlines doesn't fly from NYC (They fly out of Islip, Long Island).

However... the "low-fare" airlines aren't always the cheapest. JetBlue is almost always more expensive for me than USAirways or American. Southwest is also usually more expensive. Or if it is cheaper, it's only like $10 or 20 cheaper and I'd have to fly out of an airport an hour away, and it would cost me more than that to get to that airport so it's not worth it. Basically it pays to shop around.

Southwest Airlines flies out of Islip, Long Island.
You can take the train from Penn Station to Ronkonkamo stop and there is a shuttle that takes you right to the airport.
The fares are reasonable and there are lots of business persons who utilize this avenue of transport.

I would have to say JetBlue would probably have the best fares given they are based in the area. Another suggestion would to check out bookingbuddy.com which will allow you to look up information on various sites without having to retype everything. My best suggestion, however, would be find internet coupon codes and deals directly with the airline. I have saved hundreds this way.

jetblue is very cheap and its a great airline.it has hub in JFK airport and offers flights to many destinations from JFK.plus its all one class(not coach, first class, and buissness) and you get leather seats with plenty of legroom, live direct tv,free dunkin donuts coffee and other snacks,xm satellite radio, and even wi-fi for a laptop.i went to fort lauderdale roundtrip from jfk and it only cost me $170 whereas continental, american airlines, etc cost like $250.its a great airline and it my favorite,go to the website jetblue.com.

Going where?

Check Southwest (from LA Gardia), Jet Blue (from JFK)

Check www.kayak.com. You might be surprised that good deals can be found even on regular airlines
