Hi the other day I got wedged between three cars in the middle of the intersection, because of a work truck. Also a van cut everyone off in a different lane. I was not the only one stuck there and none of us could predict it. Finally the light changed.
Anyway, as I started to cruise again, but as I looked to my left, I noticed a very agitated young man hanging out his window with his finger extended like an animal. He was screaming at me in all manners of terrible words. I was very surprised at him. I really felt like he was extremely unreasonable, because anyone with simple observational skill would know it was the work truck and van. Plus, I was one of three stuck.
He looked like a wildman with his finger outstretched and half his body out the window. So much aggression. Why would someone start screaming like that? Isn't that going to cause his blood pressure to grow? I really felt he should let it go, have some dignity, and put that finger away. What do you think?

Caroline ... Your first answer from Cindy is the most likely cause, I believe. In their car, they tend to feel as though no one else out there knows them or will ever see them again. Additionally, in the solitude of their own car, their feelings or thoughts can become comparatively intensified because they're free to worry about being late or dwell on some need that's provoking them to be more aggressive and competitive.
What happened to you is most unfortunate ... for you AND for the dopey guy with the unruly behavior. I fear that it's going to get worse before it gets better. Some teens, particularly in large, inner-city school systems, are undisciplined. Their parents don't know or don't care; in some cases, their outrageous behavior is considered constitutionally-protected free speech, leaving them free to disrupt classroom lessons and even "flip-off" their teachers just as you were flipped-off.
Furthermore, liberally-minded school administrators have surrendered whatever authority they might have had in decades past. Now, teachers working under such administrators are prevented from admonishing students who behave badly. Almost anything that comes to the teen's mind is permitted, providing it's not illegal. Talking out of turn, disrupting the class, putting their feet up on their desk, uncaringly arriving late or being absent are all tolerated.
This is what I call "abuse of our freedoms." It's become stylish, in some social circles, to test the lower limits of acceptability. As a consequence of our changing social attitudes, behavior as you had to endure is becoming increasingly commonplace.
By the way ... If my claims about behavior in some schools sounds incredible, check my link below. If the people reading this won't believe me, perhaps they'll believe John Stossel and ABC News.
Thanks for the question, Caroline. You took the time to word it very nicely; I, for one, appreciate that. Have a good one.

Driving is one of the worst thing human beings can do. You're behind the wheel of a 2,000 pound (or more) killing machine in a system that runs on rules that very few people actually follow. It's a recipe for disaster pyschologically, phsycially, and in a civic sense.
Yes, it's an anonymous place, but it's also a place where people feel entitled -- "This is my street/road/lane," etc.

It's that box. In the early days of transportation, the driver was exposed to the same air as other drivers and they could communicate (sometimes, unfortunately.) Bringing the humans into a box was the beginning of the end for transportation.

Ha ha, yeah, that bit did make me chortle! ;p Nadia had no dignity first of all while human beings found out particularly today that she became a Tranny! the press suggested as "her* "Portu-Geezer" and shows like the Friday nighttime venture took the pi55 out of *her* a week! Nadia's "Dignity" went alongside time in the past, and this outburst over no longer something merely made it worse!

The best way to keep your dignity is to not say a word. Some people are just plain stupit. And haves nothing better to do. Remember you are you and he is he. let it go. For your dignity sake.

I am not sure we lose our dignity. I think perhaps it is stolen from us by the idiots out there who drive with their heads up their ar$es.
Having said that, I believe most drivers suffer from over reaction to other drivers around them.

Some people just want an excuse to release their stress and don't know a better way of communicating.

some people are just jerks when they drive..What kills me is the people who drive 90 mph on every road. You can't be in that much of a hurry to have to go that fast...

I agree with you. Sometimes people don`t have respect for themselves that they restore to childish tactics. Only an idiot will argue with an idiot.
