No because you weren't really served. You just ordered & picked up just as if you were buying anything else in a store.

In Australia it is not necessary to tip anyone, ever - not even taxis. People are paid a fair wage in this country. If someone gives you service above the call of duty or you are feeling generous, you can tip if you want to but you are never obliged to do so. In a taxi you often round off to the nearest dollar above the fare but just as often, the driver will round it down.

If people rely on tips to get a decent wage then they are not being paid enough. The cost of the service should be included in the cost of the product and the employer should pay a fair wage. If everyone in the USA stopped tipping, how long do you think it would be until the entire service industry was on strike for better pay?

Don't ask about how much you should be paying other people's employees, demand the employers pay them a better wage.

No, a tip is for exceptional service and when you eat in at a restaurant. A waitress deserves a tip because she brings me my food, refills my drinks, checks up on me during the meal to see if I need anything and then cleans the table after I leave. With a pick up order, they aren't doing any of this. All they are doing is ringing up your order and putting your food in a bag. Would you tip a cashier at a store for ringing you up and putting your merchandise in a bag?

I think yes i am a server and we take all he carryout orders. We do not get paid extra just our $2.65 an hour. when doing a carry out order on top of your other tables you need to gather the food, get silverware. make the salad that comes with the meal. in my case slice and wrap the bread. put the humus in a to go cup. also if you have fries i always put in a cup of ketchup etc. How could you not tip? that is on top of all the other work you are doing at the time. you do not need to tip 20% but something is mandatory.

I do not think that is necessary to tip but if it looks like they gave u extra ketchup or put extra effort in and had a good attitude, then giving them $2-3 is fine. If it is a major major order the $5 max.

no, but if someone gives me extra attention when i come in for the food, i will tip, like say, the order isn't ready when i get there and they offer me a soda on the house, or if it's a place i go a lot (1-2 a week) that always remembers my order, that i like extra soy sauce, whatever, i tip at least some of the time, just to say thanks.

People..ALL people who work in restaurants get paid minimal wage and work very hard to prepare your food. A buck on a take out order would be courteous. Pretty much a buck anytime would be nice. Do you tip the starbucks people?

No! The tip is for the convenience of NOT having to go out to get your order ... to be able to sit, relax, and let someone bring it to you! We tip very well for an order that arrives quickly AND is still nice and hot; If we order take-out and pick it up ourselves, then we never tip.

A lot of ppl don't, but I just think it is common courtesy. I always tip, even if it isn't very much because someone took the time to put together the order. The more complicated and expensive the order, the more I tip. I'd just feel bad if I didn't.

Heck no, They dont do any service to you except cooking it and preparing it. You are paying for the food. Do you get tipped when you let someone turn out in front of you on the road?
