How can I increase my chances of getting in? Is it that hard to get a 36 on the Asvab to qualify?

The air force is this wars national guard. It is the one place you can be reasonable safe, when the country is at war. Naturally, most people who are not particularly interested in getting their @ss shot off, will flock to first. There quota has been long filled, as has the navy, which is the second safest place to be, for now, while this war continues. Correction, SEALS and corpsmen and some pilots are equally exposed to combat, as are the Army and Marines.

You may have to wait until the air force needs more recruits. They may have a waiting list, where they call you when they need more people!

The Air Force is the most selective branch. If you have any sort of criminal record beyond one speeding ticket you can forget about it. If 36 is the minimum score to even get in, dont think that scoring 37 will get you in, and if it did you would be scrubbing walls and dishes in the chow hall. The Air Force is the most technically oriented service and they want people that can handle that. If you have not taken the ASVAB I HIGHLY encourage you to get one of the ASVAB prep books from a local bookstore and go through it, it will increase your score, and enhance your chances of getting in.

You have chances to re-take the asvab and depending on the job that you're going for, certain ones require a certain score. Don't stress it, the average gets around 50-something. Just make sure that you really want to be in the military and find a reason to keep you going, you're most likely going to need it.

The military is very selective in certain areas. All I can say is study and work hard in school. Have you checked out the ROTC? They will even pay a lot of your bills in college if you study hard and make good grades. As far as the Air Force, you have to remember that they have extremely advanced technology in their aircraft and only want smart educated people working on them and keeping them in the air. The Navy is the same way. As far as the Army and Marines, they are both getting more strict as well with the requirements because of advanced technology with weapons and aircraft systems. The best way to assure getting in is to have good math skills, spelling and grammar, and American and world history as well as physics, all depending on what you want to do.
Good luck in your endeavors and I hope you succeed in what you want to do.
As far as pay? I am not sure 100% what it is. I think an airman makes about 1200 a month. But that also includes a roof, free food, free medical, etc. And if you are in the Navy, you will eat the best food you have ever had.

First and foremost, if you think the air force is anything like that movie "Top Gun", don't apply coz it's not! You have to set up a meeting with your senator to get their recommendation -- that's the best way to get in. Or find out about the other branches like the marines, army or navy. If you would like to join the military to gain a sense of belonging and camaraderie, the navy would be the best.

The AF is drawing down a little bit and the Army and Marines are getting more recruits. The AF is a little tougher to get into and you will likely find the choice of jobs limited. All you can do is give it a try, best of luck.

What is so hard about getting into the USAF? Did you graduate from high school? Take the exam and find out. If I remember right, there is a web site...www.military.com that can point you to info about the exam. Good luck!
